What Is It?
Unlike traditional methods (waxing, shaving, bleaching or using depilatory creams), Laser Hair Removal gets to the root of the problem. Most clients may immediately notice a significant reduction in hair growth after a few sessions and over time may need to shave less and less. During their lifetime an average person spends over $30,000 and 1,400 hours waxing and shaving.
Waxing and shaving can break the hair. Tugging can cause the hair to break halfway, while the rest remains attached. Then your hair tries to grow but it’s been disrupted so it starts to coil. And you can end up with a large, red, swollen ingrown hair – which can even cause permanent scarring!
Laser Hair Removal can effectively treat and prevent ingrown hairs from happening in the first place. The laser doesn’t actually come in contact with the hair at all. The filtered light is absorbed by the pigment of the hair, which is then converted to heat. There’s no tugging or pulling whatsoever. And if you already have ingrown hairs, laser hair removal can still target those hairs and the heat helps to eliminate any bacteria inside the follicle.
Why do I need multiple treatments to achieve hair removal?
Laser Hair Removal requires a series of treatments because it is only effective on hair follicles in growth phase. Growth cycles for hair changes from body area to body area. Facial hair typically grows more quickly, and body hair typically has a longer growth cycle. Length between treatments can vary from 4-8 weeks. Many clients enjoy upwards of 20% hair reduction after just a single treatment, and some are 90%-95% hair-free in just six to eight treatments.
How many sessions are required?
With each treatment, hair is reduced and for most clients’ best results are seen after six to eight sessions. The actual number of sessions needed will differ depending on your hair color, hair type, body area, and skin tone. As fewer hairs grow back, treatments become less frequent and even though new hairs can begin to grow over time, they’re usually finer and easy to manage. Once there is no more hair growth, we typically recommend one treatment per year to maintain your awesome results.
Which areas of the body can be treated?
Treatments are safe and effective on all areas of the body with unwanted hair. The most commonly treated areas include: bikini, underarms, lips & chin, legs, chest, back, shoulders, stomach and beard.
Should I shave?
Yes! Please shave 1-2 days before your treatment. We request that all our clients come freshly shaved for their treatments. While receiving Laser Hair Removal treatments, avoid waxing, tweezing, or threading. These techniques remove the hair from the skin, and also the bulb under the skin, which prevents the laser from targeting them.
Can I tan or use self tanner before my session?
The only way to treat tanned skin without causing burns is to use such low settings that treatment is not as effective. So please avoid sun, tanning beds (why are you even going to a tanning bed??) and self-tanner. If you have recently been in the sun, treatments will likely get postponed.
