Tattoo Removal
How does it work?
The Q-switched NdYAG Laser “fractures” the ink pigment into particles small enough for the ink to be removed using the body’s natural filtering system.
Will this hurt?
Many patients commonly compare the sensation felt during laser treatments to a rubber band snapping against the skin. However, what the laser feels like depends on the depth and area of treatment as well as an individual's tolerance for pain. If pain is a concern, we can discuss pain management options during you comprehensive consultation
What can I expect after my treatment?
Upon completion of a tattoo removal treatment, some patients may experience minor discomfort and redness. This should subside quickly (approximately 24-48 hours). It is recommended that the treated area be covered with an antibiotic ointment for one week.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed is hard to predict. The body will absorb the broken up ink and remove it through the body’s natural filtering system. Typically, professional tattoos require 6-9 treatments approximately 8-12 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink that was used and the depth of the ink in the skin. The dark (blue and black) and the red inks will resolve best. Oranges and purples usually fade as well. Yellow ink or colors combined with yellow ink are more difficult to remove and may never completely resolve. A thorough consultation is required in order to formulate an individualized treatment plan for optimal results.
